My BFF turns 50

Veronica is my best friend. She is 7 almost 8 years younger than I am. She turns 50 a few years before I turn 60. Danielle, her oldest, just graduated as Dr. Zsido and CPT Zsido, Rachel graduates from Harvard this weekend. Luke finishes his second year at Johns Hopkins and four down, Gabrielle competed Kindergarten. Pretty good accomplishments in 49 years. Oh yea she retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and runs a business based on her ability to be a genius teaching students ACT prep.

Once during a very intense briefing of Army recruiting statistics and worse, she corrected the briefer (her analyst). It made me wonder what we really had in common as I was an enlisted Sargent with math skills literally un-chartable, not off the scale, just not making it entirely. So I whispered "why we were friends again"? since I had no clue what they were talking about. She said "because I don't know how to tie dye". Oh yea. I loved her children and have remained in AWE of her since day one, 20 years ago.

I made her these cookies to celebrate her 50th. I added Lavender from Hawaii to the dough. So Yum!!

Bye Steve

I got the most amazing compliment today from a very quiet co-worker who came by my cube to say good-bye as it was his last day.

He said to me “Never change because your attitude is fucking awesome.”

Then he left, such a nice young man.

“Bye Steve”.

You made my  fucking day.

Batch of beads with a few cracks

Working on floral's in my head and in my shop. Glass always keeps me humble, had two cracks the front trees. poop.

I failed to soak the beads enough after the detail work, I think.

Humbly yours

Bead Soup Blog Party Zone Baby

Well first and foremost I have to credit my amazingly generous bead partner Cindy Pack http://CindyPack.blogspot.com for providing me the most beautiful combination of beads and gems.

I am a simple lampwork artist and not accustom to working with such high quality stones and beads. And she showered me with an unbelievable selection. I'm almost embarrassed in comparison with what I sent her. I will hold my head up high because I sent Cindy my precious African Trade Beads from Mrs. Carnegie's own supply. After seeing Cindy's light touch with her jewelry I have to laugh because I sent her primary colors and in-your-face big honker of a focal. So if the BSBP is about coming out of your comfort zone, both Cindy and I are living the dream.

Here is what Cindy sent me.

Did you notice the neat packages with labels identifying each kind of stone, wood, clay, glass, gem and metal?

I think I sent hers in an unmarked brown paper bag that probably contained dog hair and parts of that days lunch.

So I tore through the package until I found the OM medallion I had asked Jesus, Buddha, and my lucky stars for, and yes...the medallion was included in my booty. I had seen her simple and reverent use of this medallion on her website and wanted it (insert loud pitch irritating noise) so bad. She didn't disappoint. I am so thankful for the results of meditation in my life, this symbol actually has a deep meaning for me. For Cindy to include it really made a spiritual connection for me.

She was suppose to be my partner.

I'm sure when she opened my soup she felt Karma's wicked sense of humor.

So first I had to play with the beads like a kid plays with a new box of crayons. Which led me to drawing them. It's part of my process. Here is what my mind did.

This process really helped me to get a feel for what I had. In fact I had to commit to paper the elation I felt with this generous booty.

Next my mind went wild with possibilities. I've never had the luxury to use such high end, super-duper quality beads. What can I do to honor this gift, how can I do right by her?

I love green. I spent 20 years in the Army, and I can tell you green is my color. She sent me a veritable  smorgasbord of green. How did she know? How did Lori know to send her to me???

I went crazy in my head. It was a comfortable place. I knew the floor plan.

How do I do these bead justice? Paisley!!! I love paisley, it is my shape... yes yes make a paisley.
Allow me to take a moment to thank Nicole Hanna for her copper wire tutorials. The copper color and texture of the weave is totally integral to my vision.

So I began.

So paisley I did. The beads slowly told me how to use them. Sometimes they screamed "NO, what are you thinking". Then I would rearrange them and they would whisper, "that's my girl"....

And finally they told me I was done. This is so not my usual product or style. But to me, this is exactly where Lori's genius lay, lie?

So with no further ado....
With gratitude to Lori, and no words but "you rock" to Cindy
I present my Bead Soup Beauty.

I hope you like it.

I'm mad for it.

And yes, it weighs 40 pounds.

God Bless and Namaste
